Introducing our very first Chandler and Tempe Veterinary Practices!
Website: www.AMCofC.com |
Website: http://cobblestonevet.com/ |
This first paragraph is a repeat of an earlier post introducing our Chandler Veterinarians but I wanted to post the same first paragraph because it has so much reason behind why Az Pet Professionals support the small business owners and not the large Veterinary Corporations. Please let me make clear one thing, we are not saying it is bad to take your pet to a corporate veterinary business, it’s just not for the Az Pet Professionals! We support our small business owners, it’s what we are all about! We want to know them personally as well as professionally so we know what you will be receiving as far as the care given to you and your pets.
So if you missed it, here it is……
All over the Valley people have so many choices for Veterinary Practices and Veterinarians. But which one should you take your pet/s to? Why does it seem that so many Veterinarians these days belong to big Corporations? What if you are searching for a smaller, family feeling veterinary clinic that offers the same exact services but with a little bit more of a “personal” touch for you and your fur family?
Answer a couple of questions listed below and you can decide on your own which fits you the best, smaller, family veterinarians or larger corporate practices.
If you currently go to a corporate/or corporate feeling veterinary office:
- Does it seem as if they are “selling” you things, perhaps working on commission?
- Do they seem that to sell, sell, sell is their goal, not your pet?
- Do you feel “ripped off?” when you leave?
- Do you feel like you are just another number who walked through the door?
- Is the Veterinarian spending quality time with you and your pets? Is it the same Veterinarian each time or always someone new?
- Do you long for a more personal touch, a warmer welcome?
- Did you feel special when you walked into their practice, or not?
So how did you do? Does a corporation fit you or do you long for a smaller practice?
You know, the ones who make you feel more at home, the ones who know your names when you walk through the door, always friendly but always professional, efficient but without making you feel they are “Selling.” The give you education and explore your options for pet care but let you make the final decision.
Being a Veterinarian and owning a Practice is not an easy thing to do. From start to finish they have put their hearts, hands, sweat and tears into every aspect of building their practices. Let’s show them our dedication. They could easily “Sell out” to the Corporations but they don’t.
Why? Commitment, passion and dedication to you and your pets!
So which Veterinarian do you trust to give you that personal, compassionate, but still all the while, high quality medical care, to your pet?
For years now we have named several Valley Veterinarians on our website, mostly because they are our own pet’s doctors, or we’ve heard great things about them from each another. But it’s finally time to honor those committed, small business owners and Veterinarians as actual Network Group Members! Their outstanding services should be more than just a name on our page. They’ve proved over and over to be the best and we are honored to shower them with appreciation and acknowledgement! You will see our referred Veterinarians’ page grow and grow because we want you to know where to take your pets for trusted and committed care. We care about you and your pets and only want the best for all pet parents! So without further hesitation, please let me introduce two of our new Valley Veterinarians!
So we are so excited to announce the two newest, official Valley Veterinarians! South Chandler and Tempe….. here we come!
Welcome our South Chandler Veterinarians!
I’ve known owner, Dr. Stickland and her Associate, Dr. Duregger for over 5 years and have always been impressed with their dedication, professionalism and compassion for our pets. Dr. Stickland is one of many who became discouraged with corporation changes in the veterinary field and longed to be the family veterinarian she was born and educated to be! Taking a giant leap of faith she opened her very own practice! Now she was in charge of how to run her own practice!
We are so proud of her and all she has accomplished and we know that she was able to do this with the help of her faithful staff and partner, associate veterinarian, Dr. Carolyn Duregger. We are so proud to be able to showcase our favorite Chandler Veterinary Clinic!
We are sooooo excited to announce that Animal Medical Center of Chandler is now a proud member of Az Pet Professionals! Several of us have known Dr. Stickland and Dr. Duregger for some time already and feel assured we are placing you into the most loving, caring of professionals.
Please take a minute to click on their link to see pictures of Dr. Stickland’s brand new, beautiful Practice located on the NW Corner of Chandler Heights and Arizona Avenue.

Welcome our Tempe Veterinarians!
I recently received an email from Dr. Andrew Marsh, Owner of Tempe’s Cobblestone Veterinary Care.
Like many, Dr. Marsh is a small business owner who has put his heart and soul into his practice along with his wife, Veterinarian, Dr. Amy Jundt.
I was intrigued to see their practice and asked if we could meet. I went to Cobblestone Veterinary Care a few weeks ago and needless to say was “Blown Away”! Dr. Marsh and Dr. Jundt are two of the nicest people I’ve met and their Practice is amazing! With warmth and love written all over the place it was clear their hearts were in the right place. There is so much in their practice, all of which I was impressed with, but one of the most heartfelt rooms was a warm, peaceful room off to the side by itself.
Decorated very nicely with a large comfy couch. This room is used for pet owners who have to put their pet to sleep. It’s a warm, peaceful room, not one with stainless steel, smells of alcohol, cleaners, etc. It’s quite, it’s pretty, it’s the perfect place for the ending of a beautiful life long friend’s life.
The room also allows you to walk out a separate door when done, not through the lobby. Not all Veterinarians are lucky enough to have the room in their Practices that allows such a room, but I can tell you…. they all wish they did. For you.
I hope you will take a tour of their beautiful Veterinary Clinic whenever you have the chance and if you live in North Chandler or Tempe, this is a must for you if you are looking for a trusted Veterinary Clinic!

Pet Care After Pet Adoption

August 15th is “Check the Chip” Day!
Photograph Standard License Purchased from iStock, Royalty Free License 32351186
|
Microchip that is! If your pet has a microchip you have a better chance of recovering a lost or stolen pet, but…. What if the chip is bad? What if the chip has migrated and can no longer be picked up by a reader in the universal position between the shoulder blades? That is why the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) along with AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) teamed up together to create “Check the Chip day.”
First things first. If you have not already had your pet/s microchipped get it done as soon as you can! It’s never too late! Call your family veterinarian today to schedule your pet for a microchip implantation. It’s quick and easy to do!
Secondly, if your pet is already microchipped make sure your registration is up to date including your home address, telephone numbers and emergency contact numbers. Your pet’s microchip will not do him/her any good if you’ve moved or changed any information and not updated those changes with the manufacture. If you aren’t sure which manufacture your pet’s microchip is from you can take your pet to any veterinarian that has a Universal Microchip Scanner. (Most do) This scanner will read the majority of any microchip. Your veterinarian can tell you which chip your pet has and give you the needed telephone number to call.
The most important database to register your pet with along with your manufacture’s, is AAHA’s “Universal Microchip LookUp Tool”. This large database is the one that most Shelters and Veterinarian’s use when searching for a Microchip Number.
So if you haven’t “Chipped” your pet yet or you haven’t “Checked the Chip” recently, make a trip to your family veterinarian and do it soon! Make sure your pet’s chip is readable, has not migrated and that your registration is up to date!
Thanks Pet Parents!

THE MONSOONS. TIPS FOR PETS WHO ARE AFRAID OF STORMS
The Monsoons are here once again!
Is your Dog or Cat afraid of the Monsoon Noises? Many pets are. In fact some pets are so afraid that they need help from their veterinarian by taking a prescription sedative! Whatever you do, do not ever give your pet anything without seeing your veterinarian first! If your pet is so afraid and you’ve tried everything, then you may want to schedule an appointment to see if your vet can help.
Here are some Az Pet Experts Tips for the upcoming Storm Season.
If your pet/s is afraid, try these simple solutions.
- Desensitize or counter conditioning: you can do this by creating loud noises and making sure your pet gets a treat during these times assuring him that Loud is OK. You can buy a tape of Thunderstorms and play them periodically during the week. Start off with a low volume and eventually work your way up. This will help to condition your pet to respond in a Non-Fearful way to noises that once scared him.
- Play Time” playing your pet’s favorite INDOOR game at the onset of the storm will help him prepare for the worst. Hopefully he will be able to associate that during a storm is when it is time to have fun inside! Give lots of Positive Reinforcement during this time inside.
- Calming tricks: while you go about your business with the thunder and lightning booming outside, maybe even singing and whistling, will convey to your pet that you don’t think it is a big deal.
- Create a “Safe Place” for him to go to. This can be a quite bathroom or bedroom, preferably the one farthest from windows and the quietest. A good rule of thumb to pick your pets “Safe Place” is to watch where your pet goes when he is frightened. Just because you think the bathroom is the “Safe Place”, doesn’t necessarily mean your pet does. If your pet hides under the bed like mine does, then make sure that your pet has access to that room. If you pet hides in blankets, or clothes on the floor, let him. Place a food and water bowl to assure him that he has picked a safe and happy place to go when he is afraid. Make sure you do not confine your pet, let them come and go. Some pets need to be able to stay active when they are fearful. Hiding doesn’t always work for all cats and dogs.
- Crate Training. Some dogs do better if they are in their safe and sound Crate. Remember, dogs are Den Dwelling Animals; this is a good place to them.
- Turn on a Radio, Tv or Fan to help drown out the noise.
Most of all, Reassure your pet that you will be inside with them throughout the storm. Make yourself visible. If your pet needs you to hold him, then hold him. You can still implement or try any of the above examples. Even puppies and kittens that start out not afraid can develop the fearfulness at an older age, so make sure to always notice how your pet is acting throughout storm season.
For even more…. Check out the Thunder Shirt! Just go to www.thundershirt.com
The Thunder shirt uses gentle, constant pressure to calm your dog, effectively aiding anxiety, fearfulness, barking and more.
Today there are even additional items to help calm a fearful pet, like the soft Happy Hoodie (Click name for website) that goes around their head and ears.

Wishing you luck through the entire Monsoon Season!

FOURTH OF JULY SAFETY TIP
For people that is…….
Most pets do not like the Fourth of July. This includes cats too!
Loud noises can frighten your pets. It is safer and less stressful for your pet if you leave him at home rather than taking him to a Fireworks Display.
Below are tips to help you keep your pet safe for your Fourth of July Celebration!1. Keep your pets away from Sparklers, BBQ’s and Citronella Candles. If you can’t supervise your pet at all times, keep him indoors where he will be safe. Secure him in a quite, pet proofed room with a TV playing or soft music to alleviate the noises from outside.
2.Do not apply any sunscreens or sprays to your pet that are not made specifically for him. If your yard has excessive insects that are bothering your pet, ask your local Veterinarian for a recommendation on pet safe insect repellents such as Front Line Plus and K9 Advantage.
3.Keep your pet Hydrated. Make sure to fill his bowl if he is going to be outside with you.
4.Do not place party favors, glow ropes or other festive party favorites on your pet. If digested they can cause severe health problems and even death!
5.Do not include your pet in Large Celebrations outside of your yard. Noise, Fireworks, alcohol and unsupervised ingestion of foods can be harmful to your pet.
6.Do not ever bring them with you and leave them in the car!!
7.Make sure your pet has an ID Tag on his collar with CURRENT INFORMATION!
8.If your pet’s must stay in the backyard, please make sure they cannot dig under the fence or jump over a fence. Best solution…keep them indoors!
9.Never chain your pet outside, if spooked, he could strangle himself.
10.Lastly, be patient! Be prepared for the Celebration by pet proofing your yard and your home.
The Fourth of July is one of the year’s biggest days that animals get lost.
If you have taken every step to help your pet through this Celebrated Day and he is still a basket of nerves, you may need to consult with your Veterinarian for alternatives such as mild tranquilizers to keep your pet quite.
With that said,
Have a Happy and Safe Fourth of July!

How to protect our dogs in the Summer Heat
Fur coats are hot!
Fur provides some amount of protection from the sun but thick fur prevents body heat from escaping and promotes overheating. It’s a myth that shaving a dog’s coat makes him hotter. Shaving it to the skin can make him vulnerable to sunburn but cutting the fur to about one inch can help him stay cooler. If you don’t want to shave him brush as much undercoat as you can out and be sure no solid mats are there to trap heat and moisture.
Here are several Az Pet Experts Tips on protecting pets in the heat this summer.
· Don’t walk or run your dog in the heat. That may seem obvious but we see it every day in the Arizona scorching heat! Try to take early morning short walks or late evening walks.
· Never, Ever, Ever keep your pets in parked cars! Or children for that matter!
· Be prepared for travel emergencies. What are some things that could happen if your car broke down while traveling with your pet and while you waited you used your only bottle of water? Try this:
· Try bringing a cooler with ice.
· Bring a battery powered fan.
· Have a towel that you can soak in the melted part of the ice in the cooler and place it over your pet’s head and/or body.
Cooling an overheated Dog at home
We are all human. Even the worst mistakes can happen to people with good intentions. In today’s society we all have busy schedules, always on the go, and people forget when they rush. It can be a true tragedy. If you inadvertently leave your dog outside and find him overheated there are a few things you can do at home:
Move him indoors and cool him down slowly. Don’t plunge an overheated dog into ice water! This is usually what most people think they should do. This causes the peripheral blood vessels to contract actually trapping the overheated blood at the body’s core — just where it does most harm. Instead, cool the dog slowly by placing him in cool water or by draping him with wet towels and aiming a fan at him. Offer him plenty of cool water. If you have a thermometer, cool him until his temperature reaches 103 degrees F (39 degrees C), then stop as it will continue to decline. As soon as you have him cooling transport him to us so we can monitor him. Even if he appears to have recovered he needs to go to the veterinarian because some delayed but deadly effects can still occur even days later.
Not All Dogs Can Swim!
Although swimming is a great exercise in warm weather make sure your dog can swim first! Some breeds, such as bulldogs, French bulldogs and Pekingese, have the swimming ability of cinder blocks. Even good swimmers can drown in backyard pools if they don’t know where the steps are to climb out. Be cautious of your dog swallowing too much pool water that could aspirate into his lungs. Never leave your dog un-attended around the pool.
Dogs and UV Rays
Dogs, especially light-skinned dogs and white dogs, can get sunburn and melanoma cancer just like people can. If your dog likes to be in the sun rub a sun block on his belly and the top of his nose, the most common sites for sunburn. Most sun block is safe especially if you put it in places he cannot lick. Distract him for several minutes after you apply the sun block.

Summer pet dangers in Arizona
1.Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke in Dogs
Fact: dogs do not sweat. Their only means to cooling off is by panting.
If panting does not reduce the body temperature the pet will develop Heat Stroke. The longer hair coat your dog has the more heat it holds. You can clip your dog’s hair coat short but not too short as they can also get sun burn and it acts as an insulator!
The color of your dogs coat also has an impact on his ability to reflect the sun’s rays. Black dogs of course absorb more of the sun’s rays than lighter colored coats.
What triggers Heat Exhaustion?
· age and condition of pet (overweight, geriatric)
· breed
· hair coat
· climate and duration of being kept outside in hot weather
The older dog, the younger dog and the short muzzled (brachycephalic) are among the highest at risk.
Short muzzled dogs include the Boxer, the Boston terrier, Bulldogs, Mastiffs, Pekingese, Shihtzus, Lhasas, Pugs, and many more.
If you own a short muzzled dog they should remain indoor pets in the heat! Heat Exhaustion can happen while you are out on a walk or in your own backyard. Short muzzled dogs do not have long enough air passages which can makes it difficult to breathe well. If overheated they can start to panic causing even more breathing difficulty!
Playful Puppies and adults dogs run around their backyards until they are tired and often don’t realize their bodies are already overheating! If they run around until they are overheated they may not make it back to the house for you to notice there is something not right with them!
Dog’s feet can burn too! If you need to exercise your dog it is best to do it in the early am hours before the sun becomes hot or the later evenings when the sun is going down.
FYI: the old, but truthful saying is:
FYI: Do dog’s like to run alongside a bike in the middle of the day in 100 plus temps?
“Dog’s are not having fun running next to your bike in 110 degree weather and they are in danger of heat stroke, exhaustion and collapse! “
What are the first signs of Heat Exhaustion?
- Excessive Panting
- Rapid Breathing
- The skin on the inside of the ears becomes flushed and red.
- Bright red Mucous Membranes
- Noticeable agitation and distress
- Heat Exhaustion can quickly turn into Heat Stroke as indicated by the following:
- Weakness
- Staggering
- Muscle Tremors
- Fainting and/or loss of consciousness
If you’re pet shows any of the signs above you will need to to cool him down rapidly!
Spray your dog down with cool water. Apply an ice pack wrapped in a towel to the dogs head. Place cool, wet towels over him and transport your pet to the nearest Veterinary Hospital ASAP!
We here about the tragedies every year. So please, in the heat of the summer limit your dog’s time outside. Make sure he is supervised and not forgotten! Be sure to provide shade and have available a constant water supply. Before you leave your house do a head count of all animals! It is easy to get sidetracked and forget a pet outside in today’s busy world!
Some dogs like to ride in cars but don’t, even for a second, leave your dog in a parked car in the Arizona summer time! If you do you may be charged with Animal Cruelty! The inside Temperature of a parked car can reach 105 degrees in less than 10 minutes!
2. POOL SAFETY!
Arizona has pools everywhere! If you have a new dog or puppy from the winter months it is very important to start familiarizing them now with pool safety! They may not even know what a swimming pool is! Your old and blind dog should never be outside without supervision!
If the pool hasn’t been used in the winter months it is easy to forget that your pet may not know what to do. Seeing his human family splashing around might entice him into jumping in. Make sure he knows what to do once he is in the pool. Dogs need to know where the steps are and how to get back out! Thank you for being a responsible pet owner!
Not only are dogs susceptible but cats are too. Cats have been known to be snoopy when outside. Sneaking into opened garage doors, opened shed doors and more.
So this summer please remember not only your own pets during the summer but all pets you see that could be in danger from being left outside or locked in a parked car, a garage, a shed or anywhere else! Keep your eyes opened when you walk through a parking lot and listen for any barking. You may just save a life from a reckless pet owner. Thanks pet friends!

PET BUTLER WASTE CLEAN UP
Introducing another amazing Az Pet Professional member and her Crappy Business! Pun most definitely intended!
My name is Sandy Aaron and I am the proud local owner and operator of Pet Butler Pet Waste Cleanup and Removal servicing the East Valley and Phoenix.
5 Star Rating
“We have been doing business with Sandy and Pet Butler for a little over three years now. Anyone that has ever been out to clean our yard has been so nice and friendly to all of our dogs. They ALWAYS come as promised (we do twice a week yard pick ups), do wonderful work, and address concerns immediately. Sandy and Pet Butler have been wonderful to work with over the years. I would highly recommend them to anyone!”
See all of our Yelp reviews here:
After a 20-year career as a Computer Support Administrator, I wanted to find an opportunity where I could work directly in and with the community. I found Pet Butler and was immediately drawn to its values and core system. The idea of working outdoors, being around animals, providing exemplary customer service while providing such a necessary service was just what I was looking for. It’s a crappy job, but someone has to doo it! Every day is a crappy day here at Pet Butler, but we love it! Business stinks but it’s picking up. Ok, enough fun!
I have lived in Gilbert for 20 years. I have been involved in many different aspects of community service. I am a strong believer in getting involved in our communities. I have two children and four grandchildren. I have always been owned by at least one dog!
If you’ve got “Pet Poop” give us a call so we can show you why we are #1 in the #Poo business!

How many pet owners have thought, “Wow! I could really use some help with these Veterinary Bills!” Most pet owners know that unlike human medical insurance, pet insurance hasn’t caught on as much as we’d like it to. It would be great if every pet owner could afford pet insurance so they could cover expensive veterinary charges, annual health examinations, vaccines, heartworm testing and so forth. But which company would you choose if you were interested in Pet Insurance? Who has the best program to offer you? There are so many to choose from today!
To be honest, I think this is why most people don’t follow through with exploring the idea of buying Pet Insurance for their pet/s. They just don’t know where to start. Not only that but when Pet Insurance first caught the ears and eyes of the pet owners, not much was covered and it was expensive to say the least. But times change and so do companies. Pet Insurance companies have risen to the occasion. After all, they have to keep up with today’s demands from pet owners! Pet Insurance is much more thorough today then it was ten years ago. They are able to offer more, are less expensive and have tailored packages to fit your pets needs. So if you ever thought about it before but chose not to explore how about giving it one more chance?
I’ve found a website, or I guess I should say, “They found me”… and asked if I’d share their information and website link which compares Pet Insurance Companies and educates pet owners further in how to choose a Pet Insurance Company which best fits their lifestyle.
Take a look, you just might be surprised! Thanks Reviews.com Pet Insurance! This is a great help to pet parents!

WORLD SPAY DAY TODAY, FEBRUARY 25TH, 2014.
LET’S CELEBRATE SPAY AND NEUTER AWARENESS MONTH FOR THE REST OF FEBRUARY!
Authorized for use: Licensed Purchased from iStock. http://www.istock.com |
Hundreds of Events and Thousands of Lives Saved Mark 20th Annual World Spay Day
Shared by: http://www.azhumane.org/spayneuter/
Facts about Spaying and Neutering:
- 50 percent of litters aren’t planned. Puppies and kittens can safely and easily be fixed by four months to prevent accidental litters.
- Puppies and kittens as young as two months old or weighing at least two pounds can be spayed or neutered.
- Spay/neuter reduces breeding-related health risks such as reproductive cancer. It can add years to your pet’s life, meaning lots of extra toy tossing, treat sharing, and couch cuddling in your future.
- Spay/neuter ends females’ heat cycles (no more unwanted male suitors). It reduces roaming and pets’ chances of being hit by cars. Neutering resolves most territorial urine marking issues and means no more humping everything in sight.
- Spaying and neutering do not hurt, as veterinarians use anesthesia during the procedures and provide pain medications afterward.
For the first time ever this year, some participants are using Zeuterin™, an FDA-approved, nonsurgical, injectable sterilant for male dogs 3-10 months old, that provides another important tool in the effort to humanely control dog and cat populations.
AHS’ mobile clinic will be in at Friendship Park in Avondale, 12325 W. McDowell Road, March 4-6
PETCO in Gilbert, 1415 E. Warner Road, March 25-27 offering free spay/neuter services courtesy of Arizona’s License Plate Grant.
Both clinics are first-come, first-serve and space is limited. Please arrive early.
Gilbert Arizona’s very own Spay and Neuter Facility! Recognizing the importance of spaying and neutering, ALL YEAR LONG!
http://www.nikisplace.com/
This year, the popular Mutts comic strip will run a commemorative World Spay Day strip, a sample is included below:
World Spay Day 2014 is presented by The Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society International, in partnership with the Doris Day Animal Foundation, the Alliance for Contraception in Cats & Dogs, Ark Charities, the ASPCA®, Best Friends Animal Society, the House Rabbit Society, Humane Alliance, the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association, Petfinder Foundation and PetSmart Charities®. World Spay Day 2014 is sponsored by Abaxis.
Events in honor of the 20th annual World Spay Day take place throughout February, which is Spay/Neuter Awareness Month. World Spay Day has been recognized in all 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, U.S. territories, and nearly 50 countries. Find World Spay Day events near you, sponsor a spay/neuter surgery, and get resources for affordable spay/neuter services at worldspayday.org.

Does your pet have bad breath? This and many more symptoms could be signs of oral health problems.
Below is a list of symptoms that most pets will have if they have a troublesome and even painful mouth that you might not be aware of.
- Decreased interest in eating (Too painful)
- Excessive want to eat (hungry because they are not able to eat)
- Pawing at face (irritated gums and teeth, pain)
- Rubbing their face on furniture or the carpet
- Drooling (mobile or painful teeth)
- Un-characteristic snapping at you when you pet its face (Painful)
- Bleeding gums (Periodontal disease-bleeding, mobile teeth)
To address the significance of oral health care for pets the AVMA and several veterinary groups are sponsoring National Pet Dental Health Month in February.
Watch this AVMA You Tube Video to learn how to brush your pet’s teeth.
Many dogs and cats over 3 years of age have some form of periodontal or dental disease. One way to prevent it from happening is by brushing your dog or cats teeth.(American Veterinary Medical Association) has a great step-by-step instructional video on how to teach a dog or cat to accept a daily tooth brushing.
So what exactly is Periodontal Disease? Well, we’ve found another great You Tube Video by the AVMA that explains Dental Disease in detail with lots of picture’s and charts.
If you aren’t sure if you’re pet has dental disease you’ll want to watch this!
Dr. Jan Bellows, president of the American Veterinary Dental College and owner of All Pets Dental in Weston, Fla., discussed the importance of dental health for our pets in an interview for our Animal Tracks podcast series.

Last week I took a drive to Queen Creek/San Tan Valley, to get some updated pictures of H & H Pet Services‘ Boarding facility. I wanted to capture the home feeling you receive when you enter the front door. It’s quite apparent owner, Heather Clark, has put her heart and soul into her boarding facility. Instantly I found the feeling to be warm, friendly and inviting and homey…. a place I’d want for my own pets to be if I left town. This is what Heather’s services are known for! Your pet feels more at home rather than being boarded at a traditional boarding facility in a kennel.
There is a large yard that they can romp and play during play time hours and all of the rooms are decorated delightfully with dog and cat decor.
Heather is certified in Pet CPR and First Aid so she will know what to do if your pet becomes sick, injured or has an emergency while in her care. Why would you want your pet’s to go anywhere else?
Enjoy some of Heather’s special touches at her boarding home by looking at the following pictures.

How many of you own a dog or dogs, but just simply don’t have the time to take them for walks like you’d like to?
So many of us leave our homes each day feeling guilty about leaving our dogs home once again for hours, when we know what they’d really love to be doing is heading outside for a walk.
Sniffing each bush and tree they pass, running alongside their human, frolicking in tall grass or in some places, snow. So how can you over come the guilt you feel when you know your dog/s enjoy and, most likely need, the outdoor exercise they love?
Katie is one of our newest members and has a unique service I know you will all want to hear more about!
Katie has had years of experience with many dog personalities, has a passion for animal rescue and all dogs, is Pet CPR and First Aid Trained and has the passion for outdoors, hiking, walking, running and bicycling, all wrapped up in one!

Introducing this weeks Featured Pet Expert, Kim MacCrone-CVT and business owner of Vetek Chic on wheels, an In-home pet health service, Pet CPR and First Aid Instructor and pet expert!
Kim MacCrone is the founder of Az Pet Professionals and the business owner of Vetek Chic on wheels (Vet Tech on wheels). She is also a certified Pet CPR and First Aid Instructor through Pet Tech Inc., the first International pet CPR and First Aid Training Center in the world.
Kim founded Az Pet Professionals in 2008 because she wanted to collaborate with other pet professionals on a business and social level. Her belief was to never refer her own clients to someone she did not know or trust. She wanted only people she knew and trusted to care for her own clients other pet needs. With that, Az Pet Professionals has grown to be on of Arizona’s most popular and well-known Pet Network Groups.
Kim is also known for her two personal opinions:
Current members in the network group who do work directly with other people’s animals are all certified in completion of her course in Pet CPR and First Aid, with the exception of a couple members who already have extensive training in this area. It is one of the reasons this network group is so respected.
Kim is also a Certified Veterinary Technician and has been in the veterinary field for over 24 years.
She continues to work as a Supervisor and CVT in the East Valley.
Kim has an In-Home Pet Nursing business that allows her to work with Valley Veterinarians who’s clients need assistance in their own homes with quality of life care and on-going medical care. Kim’s biggest request for service is tending to clients who have pets with diabetes or the need for subcutaneous fluid administrations on a daily basis.
Kim supports pet owners by doing “hands-on demonstrations” from beginning to end making it easier for the pet parent to continue to give the pet the needed care.
Kim has had the extreme pleasure of speaking to many veterinary assistant students at well known veterinary Colleges in the Valley. One of her all time favorites and one of her most rewarding services is participating in Power Paws Assistance Dogs Summer Camps and speaking to the kids that attend Paradise Valley’s Science and Agriculture College. She has said that spending time with these amazing kids at their college and the Power Paws summer camp program, has been more rewarding than she could have ever imagined.
Boarding facilities and Resorts have also sought out Kim’s expertise in the pet world by training their staff members to be more aware of spotting an illness or injury with one of the pet vacationers as well as basic pet care.
Kim’s passion is working with animals and is apparent in the areas she’s chosen to work in. Her passion is about educating pet owner’s and pet businesses in basic health care so that they can all be better pet parents and pet businesses!
Kim holds monthly Pet CPR and First Aid Classes in Chandler. To read more about Kim’s services please visit www.vetekchiconwheels.com.

- Make sure your pet is wearing a collar with identification tags with current information. Cats should wear break away / safety collars. Microchipping your pet is always advised! It’s fast and easy and can be done during your pet’s regular examination.
- Keep your pets indoors in a quiet area that is familiar to him / her with plenty of fresh water and give dogs several safe chew toys. Dogs who are crate trained may feel safest in their kennels. Cats will do best in a bathroom or utility room with food, water and their litter box.
- Resist the urge to soothe and comfort your agitated pet as this can actually reinforce his / her stressed behavior. Instead, stay calm and “matter of fact” when dealing with a pet who is upset by loud noises.
- Frightened outdoor dogs have been known to jump high fences and dig holes to escape the sound of fireworks. Indoor animals should be kept away from large glass windows or doors because when scared they are capable of crashing right through.
- Make sure to keep all alcohol, festive foods / chocolates, floral arrangements and party decorations away from your pets. Alcohol can be dangerous and deadly while balloons, streamers, party hats and confetti can become lodged in your pet’s intestines, causing an intestinal blockage. Chocolate is especially toxic to both canines and felines.

Sue’s Pet Friends
Business Telephone: 480-628-6958
Sue Higbee, owner of Sue’s Pet Friends, has been in business for almost 12 years giving love and care to animals.
Sue’s Fur-Baby, Dynamite |
Sue says: “My business has grown well and now I have added 4, incredible contractors that give the same love as I do! My purpose is to make a difference in our community with regard to building human/pet relationships. I believe pets are part of the family, and I am committed to providing them with tender loving care and you with peace of mind. All of my sitters are professionally trained, bonded, insured and undergo a thorough criminal background check.
Meet Dave! Dave has been in the business with me for 10 years! Dave does overnights and daily visits. He also cares for diabetic animals. Dave has made a few peoples mouths drop open when an animal does not like men because once they meet him, before he leaves they are giving him kisses. Dave works Tempe and parts of Chandler. Dave also has a Sulcata Turtle!
Meet Brian! Brian is also a vet tech with 1 ½ years with me in the business. Brian does overnights and daily visits. Brian has a report card waiting for you when you arrive home. Being a vet tech he can administer those meds or injections that your pet may require. Brian is gentle and kind with all animals. Brian services the Chandler area. Brian has 3 dogs of his own that are a huge part of his family!
Meet Leigha! Leigha is a school teacher whose been with me in business for 1 ½ years. Leigha previously has worked at a veterinary office part time before coming to work with me. Leigha only does visits in the Ahwatukee area. She owns 1 dog and 2 cats and adores them!
Meet Kim! Kim has been with my business for 6 months now! Kim works for the airlines and helps transport rescue animals to their destination. Kim does overnights and daily visits in Ahwatukee, Tempe and parts of Chandler. Kim is a very patient person. She works crazy hours so loves everyone else’s animals for now.
Sue and Madonna |
Myself: I am a transporter for “On the road again” (OTRA) and “Take me home transporters” when I am not working with my own clients. I have a 9 year old rescue baby. I also have two rescue groups that I care for their rescue animals while they are away. I can sometimes have 15 dogs to care for at one time! It’s a fun zoo around here with Sue’s Pet Friends and never a dull moment! I also have a client who makes beds for the rescue groups around the Valley! We collect linens of all kinds, all year round along with bowls, leashes, food etc.
Sue’s Pet Friends provides personalized care for your dog or cat in his own environment where he feels safe. Dogs are territorial pack animals. He understands his boundaries and position in the pack at home. He may feel insecure, unsafe, and uncertain of his position when he is not at home. Uncertainty results in physical and emotional stress for your dog. Sue’s Pet Friends will ensure your dog’s normal routine is maintained. He or she will be able to go potty whenever they need to. He or she will be fed his normal diet plus any special treats as instructed.
Sue and friends |
Your dog or cat will have human contact which is extremely important for these social animals. He or she will continue his normal playtime routines as well as scheduled walks. “Playing ball” is very important for some active dogs.
One couldn’t expect that type of attention or commitment from a boarding facility; however, your Pet Sitter could easily toss a disc or throw a ball around the yard. Another key benefit to your dog is Sue’s Pet Friends can administer medications for your sick, elderly, or injured dog while you are away. We can also tend to your dog or cat in the event of an emergency and ensure he receives the attention of your veterinarian.
We may provide services such as turning on lights in the house in the evening, bringing in the mail and newspapers as well as watering houseplants. In other words, they can actually double as house-sitters too! If you add up the potential pitfalls of boarding your dog in a kennel and the benefits of contracting the services of Sue’s Pet Friends, you will quickly realize why the demand for Pet Sitters is growing and why Sue’s Pet Friends may be the best choice for you.
I’m pretty social!

November is adopt a senior dog month.
Why Adopt an old dog?
Prospective families looking to adopt a new dog or puppy typically focus on one thing and that one thing is usually about adopting puppies! They want one that “can grow with the family” or “is cute and cuddly”. Understandable in some situations, but what about the older generation, or the young couple looking to add to their young family? Is it really a good idea for an elderly person to adopt a young puppy that may live for 17 years? What happens if they pass away and the pet is only 6 or 7 years old? I know what happens; often that pet ends up at the pound. It’s an awful lot of work raising a new puppy. If you’re retired and set on adopting a new puppy rather than an older dog, make sure your retirement is not going to get in the way of providing all the needs a new puppy comes along with. As for a young family. If you do not have kids yet what happens when you do?
Will you be the familiar couple that says “We need to find a home for Buster because we have a new baby now and just don’t have time for a pet.” If you adopt a pet, then have kids, be prepared to incorporate that pet into your new family life. It’s not fair to the pet if you just toss it aside once bouncing babies come along.
So why do so many of us forget that there are many senior pets that are also looking for their fur-ever homes? Think about it this way. When a family must give up a pet that they’ve owned who is older, whatever the circumstance may be, or your elderly friend, neighbor or family member passes away and leaves behind a beloved older pet, what do you think happens to the pet? Often they end up at the pound or are taken to an animal shelter if they are lucky enough to have found one who has room.
Remaining family members often don’t want to assume the responsibility of caring for the left behind pet. Sometimes it’s even impossible.
Another reason may be that people tend to think that a senior dog is so near to having health issues or may already have some, that they don’t want to be financially obligated.
Understandable of course. You wouldn’t want to adopt if you knowingly knew there were some health problems that you couldn’t afford.
But what about puppies? On average, a new puppy can cost a family between $1,000 or more their first year of life! The factors that may lessen that amount are whether the pet is already spayed or neutered, has already received their first set of vaccines, and/or is microchipped already. Truth of the matter is while some of which may save you some initial cost you still must follow up with continuing care such as booster vaccines, monthly heartworm preventative, housetraining, grooming needs, basic obedience training, crates, puppy beds, toys, collar or harnesses, and food bowls.
Coupled together it is most likely no more expensive than if you had your newly adopted senior pet in for a complete medical exam including a senior profile blood panel and urinalysis so that you have a good starting foundation of the pet’s current health condition.
Think about this…. Senior pets are most likely already obedient, house trained and most bad habits have been gone for a long time! (Chewing on shoes, eating the couch, etc.). It’s really your perfect pet!
Last but certainly not least, if the above has not convinced you…..some animal shelters will have a senior dog examined by a veterinarian prior to placing it up for adoption. Often blood work, urinalysis and sometimes even oral needs have already been done. Most shelters will not adopt a pet without a microchip and current vaccines. Wow! What a deal, right?
Okay, now I’m listening…….
What you inherit is a loving pet simply needing a loving family to live out the rest of its Golden Years. It isn’t fair that these wonderful souls who’ve been loved for so long are suddenly ripped out of what they’ve always known to end up living for years unwanted at a shelter or heaven forbid, in a noisy, frightening, daunting place like the pound, often with only 2-5 days of hope left before they are euthanized.
If you haven’t thought of this before but are thinking you may have a change of heart, please don’t turn away from the senior pets you encounter while out searching for your new perfect pet. Remember these positive facts about how wonderful you will feel and how thankful and forever grateful a senior pet will be if you take them into your hearts.

Please make sure to prepare if you have pets. Halloween should be a fun time! Please yourself with the following Safety Tips.
- Don’t leave your pet out in the yard on Halloween: There are plenty of stories of vicious pranksters who have teased, injured, stolen, even killed pets on this night.
- Trick-or-treat candies are not for pets: Chocolate is poisonous to a lot of animals, and tin foil and cellophane candy wrappers can be hazardous if swallowed.
- Be careful of pets around a lit pumpkin: Pets may knock it over and cause a fire. Curious kittens especially run the risk of getting burned.
- Don’t dress the dog in costume unless you know he loves it. Otherwise, it puts a lot of stress on the animal.
- If you do dress up your dog, make sure the costume isn’t constricting, annoying or unsafe. Be careful not to obstruct her vision
- Even the sweetest dogs can get snappy when they can’t see what’s going on around them.
- All but the most social dogs should be kept in a separate room during trick-or-treat visiting hours; too many strangers in strange garb can be scary for a dog.
- Be careful your cat or dog doesn’t dart out through the open door.
- KEEP ALL BLACK CATS INDOORS!
How does the microchip work?
The microchip is generally injected deeply under the skin. It sits safely there, totally inert. A special scanner is used to send a radio signal through the skin of the animal to read the chip. The animal feels nothing as the scanner is passed over him. The microchip sends it’s number back to the scanner. It appears in the viewing window as, for example, AVID 220*609*321.

“I founded P.A.W.S. Products in my own kitchen in Arizona. I’ve always had a love for natural food and cooking. I believe there is a definite link between good food and good health. After the loss of my sweet dog, Bella, I became passionate about finding out how to provide a better diet and more natural products for my pets so that they could have a better quality, and hopefully, longer life. “

This celebration is focused on certain things that pet owners can do to increase their pet’s lives.
For puppies and kittens
· Make sure your puppy or kitten receives all their booster vaccines from 6-8 weeks old until 4-5 months old. This can be determined by your veterinarian depending on what age you start their series.
· Have your puppy or kitten checked for intestinal parasites by bringing in a stool sample to your appointment.
· Have your veterinarian de-worm your kitten for intestinal parasites. Some of these parasites can be transmitted to people!
· Start new puppies on Heart worm preventative as early as 6 weeks of age and continue every month all year around. Heart worm preventative also de-worms monthly for certain intestinal parasites!
· Have your pets spayed and/or neutered to help pro-long their life span and decrease their chances of cancer.
· Microchip your puppy or kitten so if they become lost you have a better chance of recovering them.
· Socialize your young kitten or puppy so it becomes a well-adjusted and happy adult.
· Feed your pets a healthy diet and given them plenty of exercise and fun!
For adult dogs and cats

· It is recommended that all adult cats and dogs are seen at least once a year but preferably twice a year. This allows you to monitor any subtle changes in their routines like elimination, water and food intake, activity and mental awareness.
· Brush your pets’ teeth daily. Preferably starting at a young age so it becomes routine.
· If your dog or cat has dental disease make sure to address it quickly so that it doesn’t lead to further conditions such as periodontal disease, heart and kidney disease.
· Update your dog’s heart worm test annually.
· Rule of thumb is when your pet reaches the age of 7 years; they are entering their senior years. It is important to see the veterinarian so that you can have a senior blood panel and urinalysis performed so that you have a baseline of how healthy they are now so that if something changes, your vet has results to go by.
· Update your pet’s vaccines annually and/or every 3 years, depending on your veterinarian’s recommendations.
· Have your cat or dogs stool checked annually for intestinal parasites. This is not just for puppies and kittens! There are a few intestinal parasites that can be transmitted from your pet to you so it is recommended that you do this each year.
· Feed your pet a proper diet and make sure they get plenty of exercise!

Thank you Carol Lynn for being such an outstanding pet expert and one of our Proud Members!
Driving home today I noticed a pick up truck on the corner loaded with cat condos and cat trees, as well as dogging steps, planks and cat scratchers. Of course I had to stop, my kitties love kitty condos! They perch in them all the time and play, play, play! Here is what I found.
Blood, Sweat, Tears and a lot of splinters! That’s what they said when I asked them… “How did you do all of these??” I was so impressed, I asked her if I could place her on our front page as well as our Supporting Business Page. First of all, I love that they are actually made right here in my own neighborhood, in the USA and by two people who are putting heart and soul into making them! This is the sort business I love supporting!
SIBLINGS-R-US
Cat Condos, and Doggie Steps/planks. Can custom make to your liking!
Made in the USA by two hard working siblings. Through Blood, Sweat and Tears this two-some hand crafts these beautiful cat condos and doggies steps. Made through sheer passion and half the cost of the pet store condos, many which are made in CHINA!
Why do cats like kitty towers? Because they are natural “perchers” and feel safer if up higher. In the wild they perch and sleep up high in trees. If you own a cat, you must have a kitty tower! You will never regret making your cat/s happier!
Give Don or Janine a call at 602-303-7761.
“I purchased one of their cat condos’ for my own cats and they love, love, love it! They haven’t come down from it yet” Kim MacCrone
How many of you leave your pet carrier in a closet or the garage until the night before or morning of your cat’s veterinary appointment?
Yep, as I thought… most of us!
I know if the only time I saw the “Thing” that took me out of my home, into a scary, loud automobile, into a place that smelled like all sorts of animals, and each time I got “poked”, I’d run too!
Wouldn’t you? So let’s try this. Leave your carrier out. That’s right, OUT.
Make it part of the house, just another piece of furniture. Maybe even give it a squirt of catnip spray or put some kitty treats into it. Then, don’t make a big deal about it! Just walk away and ignore it. If you make a fuss about it, they’ll catch on, trust me. Leave it there for at least a week, if not longer, prior to your veterinary appointment. By then your cat should have lost all interest in it. The morning of the appointment they won’t have any idea that they will be going inside it today!
There are also over the counter sprays for cats that have natural pheromones which act as a calming agent to many cats, that you can spray the carrier with (when your cat is out of the room so he doesn’t see you) right before you leave and you can also spray a blanket that can go inside the carrier. By the time you arrive at your vet’s office your pet should be fairly calm. One popular name brand spray that we use in the clinic I work at is called “Feliway” which comes in spray form as well as in diffusers to use in your home. Hopefully these tips will help kitties experience with the cat carrier a little easier than before! Thanks pet friends!

Our business was started in 2007 when the issues started arising regarding tainted ingredients being used in certain dog foods & dog treats. The main issue for company owner, Angela Riservato, a former chef, was to develop dog treats that were not only tasty but included only quality human-grade ingredients that were safe for dogs. As an owner of three family dogs, ingredient safety is a big factor with her dog treats because having something that is supposed to be a treat that would in turn potentially harm her fur-kids would be totally devastating to her & her whole family. She personally watches over every aspect of the business from receiving orders to packaging & delivering the treats.
Furbabies Delectable Delights offers a wide variety of dog treats to satisfy all types of canines. All of our treats have been sent out for testing & each package label contain a guaranteed analysis as well as an expiration date. We bake wheat & wheat-free biscuit-type treats in many flavors, jerky, cake-type treats for those dogs who are getting on in age or have difficulty chewing the standard biscuit treat, pupcakes, which are bone-shaped cupcakes as well as all occasion cakes that are available in two sizes to help celebrate any special day in your furbaby’s life! All of our cakes/pupcakes are wheat-free, so all furbabies will be able to enjoy them! This year we launched a new flavor cake/pupcake, Sweet Pawtato, & it has taken center stage with our cake /pupcake orders.
