Yappy Holidays Pet Parents!
With the holiday season here many of us are busy running around which can in return raise stress levels in our pets! It’s a busy time and our pets can sense the stress that we have!
Microchipping your pet can help in their return if they should accidentally escape through an open door or garage!
Call one of our Veterinarians today and schedule an appointment. There’s no better time than now!
Below are some tips you can easily remember this season to help keep your pets stress free, safe and happy!
- Inform your guests not to feed your pet table scraps. This can be very harmful and sometimes fatal! Keep your pets on their regular diet. Xylitol found in many candy and gum can be fatal to our pets so make sure all goodies are out of reach!
- Do not allow children to harass your pet as this could lead to trouble. Stress can sometimes make our pets on edge. It’s a good idea to keep your pet in a quite room if they are not accustomed to many people or children when having guests over.
- Keep a regular routine for your pet. This will help to keep most of this month normal for your fur babies.
- Make sure your pet receives their daily exercise. This will burn energy making them tired and more relaxed. A good dog is a tired dog!
- Give your pets plenty of One-On-One time! Play time is important!
- Keep purses off the floor and out of reach! Many of our purses contain medications, sugary gum, mints or candy which are all dangerous for pets.
- Keep an eye on all ornaments, those on your tree as well as all over the house. Some pets find these irresistible to investigate but they can be dangerous if ingested!
- Pine needles on the tree can be harmful if ingested. They can puncture the intestines causing great damage! So please vacuum up any that may be on the floor and keep pets from eating away at the branches.
Below is a list of a few popular but dangerous items we see frequently this time of year.

Dangerous Holiday Paraphernalia:
- Plastic six pack beverage holders
- Electric cords
- Glass ornaments or small ornaments that can be ingested
- Ribbons and tinsel.
- Foil and Rubber bands
- Pine needles. If your pet ingests a pine needle, there is a danger of internal organs being pierced by the needles. This may require surgical intervention and can be fatal.

On the Yappy Side……
The Holidays can be fun for your pet too! You just need to invest in the time to make sure they aren’t forgotten!
Take your dog for some extra walks, make sure he realizes that you haven’t forgotten him during this busy time.
Kitties love Cat Condos and play time too!! Don’t forget, your feline friends need attention and play too, just make sure their toys are safe and please remember, NO RIBBON OR TINSEL! It may look fun to play with but ribbon and tinsel can become twisted in intestines if ingested. This requires surgical intervention which is expensive and sometimes even with surgery the damage is too much and it turns in to a fatal situation.
If you are thinking about giving a pet the gift of a new fur friend, please remember that giving someone the gift of a new pet is a gamble. You may think it’s a good idea but your friend may not. A pet might not fit into their lifestyle right now and the situation could lead to the pet being homeless once again. Many pets are returned after the “fuzzy gift” feeling has gone. If you are serious about adopting a pet then this can be the purr-fect time but if you are just doing it because it’s the holidays it may be wise to re-visit the idea after the Holidays.
If you are looking to adopt a new pet this holiday season there are many Shelters in each area of the Valley that have wonderful cats and dogs just waiting for their new homes.
So even though you are be busy this month please take a moment and focus on your pets and their needs as well. You’ll be happy you did and so will your pets!
